Unfurling

About Project

The serpentine coil of a slithering snake, the gentle curl of a fresh fern frond, a sundew flower on the verge of releasing its sweet ensnarement - these organic forms from the Wallum landscape inspire the dynamic spiraling patterns of Unfurling. Rising from the earth like ancient sentinels, these sculptural forms create a gateway that transforms from day to night, connecting viewers to the rhythms of the natural world

Layers of Weathering Steel

Crafted from 360 layers of 10mm weathering steel, each layer is meticulously inlaid with stainless steel elements that trace delicate patterns across the surface. These inlays create an intricate choreography of light and shadow, while the weathering steel's natural patina evolves with time, deepening the sculpture's connection to its environment.

RGBW pixel lights mounted along the sculpture's face illuminate at dusk, displaying motion-triggered footage captured from local Wallum flora and waterways. This fusion of digital imagery with industrial materials creates a dynamic installation that reflects both the ancient patterns of nature and contemporary innovation, offering viewers a constantly evolving experience of their environmental heritage.
