The elusive Platypus-Tailed Glider is a creature that inhabits the high reaches of scribbly gums, swooping down on its prey and using its formidable premolars and sharp talons for the kill. Primarily nocturnal, it is seldom seen, although bushwalkers occasionally report experiencing attacks from an unseen large and ferocious entity from above.
Tucked behind the clock, hidden within a copper sphere, resides a representation of the mythical Platypus-Tailed Glider (Thylarctos Pteronic). This fantastical creature, a product of the local wallum ecosystem, was inspired by workshops with local primary school students.
Artsworker and Jeweller Rebecca Ward collaborated with these students to envision hypothetical wallum creatures, exploring different evolutionary paths nature could have taken. The culmination of these collaborative creative sessions is a collection of artworks that were compiled into a hardcover book. This book serves not just as a record of the students' imaginative contributions, but also as a testament to the rich possibilities that exist when art, imagination, and natural history intertwine.
