Designed, engineered and built in one place

Concept, 3D modelling, engineering, casting patterns, CNC and plasma cutting, welding, electronics and installation all happen in an off-grid, solar-powered workshop in the hinterland above Maleny.

The workshop runs on its own solar power. Almost everything on this site was designed, engineered and built there, then trucked out to the town it was made for.

• Concept and story: Ideas developed from the place: its history, people and quirks, often written up as an imagined history.
• 3D modelling and engineering: SolidWorks and ZBrush models, shop drawings, and engineering coordinated for certification.
• Cutting and forming: CNC routing and plasma cutting in the workshop, with specialist suppliers for laser cutting, rolling and folding.
• Casting patterns: 3D-printed and CNC-cut patterns for bronze and aluminium castings.
• Welding and metalwork: Stainless steel, weathering steel, bronze, copper and brass, finished by hand.
• Electronics and firmware: LEDs, sensors, generators, servos and custom controllers, so the works respond to people.
• Installation and care: Footings, craning, commissioning, and maintenance for years afterwards.
