The Ponds
Street Furniture · The Ponds, Blacktown, NSW
Functional art seating designed and made by prisoners at Parklea Correctional Centre, under my direction as artist and designer with the centre's staff.
The anthropomorphic furniture came out of a consultative design process with the prisoners, shaped around what their metal workshop could make. Each maker added their own pattern in welded stainless wire, polished to contrast with the mild steel body, and created the mosaic tops for the chairs and tables.
