Unfurling Seat

Street Furniture · Pacific Paradise, Sunshine Coast

In coastal forests, trees grow strong in sand and stand up to coastal gales. Their strength comes from the messy complexity underground.

This generous platform seat, made to sit with the Unfurling sculpture, has a simple, striking top of recycled Australian hardwood, each piece cut with non-parallel sides. Underneath, an interlocking weathering-steel plinth recalls the roots that hold a sheoak or banksia upright in shifting sand, and reads from a distance as an open web of forms.
